Hamza’s latest series on BBC1 titled Hamza’s Hidden Wild Isles saw him travel across the UK over a year, uncovering the incredible Hidden Wildlife all around us. The series garnered great acclaim and impressive viewing figures of 5.12 million. In 2024, Hamza showcased his infectious passion for birds in his BBC One documentary ‘Hamza: Strictly Birds of Prey’ which also received 5 star reviews and over 3.8 million viewers.
Hamza has won and been nominated for many prestigious awards including being awarded for Best Presenter at both Royal Television Society Awards and Royal Television Society West in 2026.
Hamza’s first appearance as a BBC presenter was on The One Show, as one of their new wildlife cameramen. This is where he was seen by DML, who immediately spotted his potential and signed him as a client. Today, Hamza is known as Ranger Hamza on the hugely popular CBeebies live-action shows Let’s Go For A Walk, Ranger Hamza’s Eco Quest and Hamza Loves Animals: Africa. He is also one of the regular presenters on BBC’s Countryfile and Animal Park, with some of his Countryfile specials receiving over 3 million viewers – an unprecedented number! Previously he has shared his vast knowledge and camera skills on ITV’s This Morning. In 2022, Hamza was delighted and honoured to lift the glitterball trophy with his professional partner Jowita Przystal, having won BBC1’s Strictly Come Dancing!
Hamza was also the presenter and cameraman for the one-off Channel 4 documentary Scotland: My Life in the Wild, which was about Hamza’s own life in the Scottish Highlands and the wildlife that lives there. In a four-part follow-up series called Scotland: Escape to the Wilderness, Hamza guided celebrity companions on journeys through western and eastern Scotland and the Highlands.
Hamza embarked on his wildlife photography journey by assisting renowned wildlife cameraman Jesse Wilkinson on BBC nature documentaries. He has filmed for BBC’s wildlife documentary series Springwatch, filming a sparrowhawk sequence for Silverback’s The Hunt (narrated by Sir David Attenborough), polar bears for Sky’s series Predators and most recently capturing incredible eagle footage for BBC One’s ‘Wild Isles’ in which Sir David Attenborough explores the British Isles, including the extraordinary wildlife surrounding Hamza’s home in Scotland. He produced a promotional video for the 25th Anniversary of the Rutland Global BirdFair in 2013. Hamza’s impressive qualifications are a Master’s Degree (MSc.) in Biological Imaging and Photography with Merit, in addition to his Bachelor of Science (BSc.) in Zoology with Conservation.
Hamza has a passion for birds and is a skilled ornithologist and birds nest recorder, with excellent field craft and habitat knowledge. Hamza is also a published, famous wildlife photographer as well as a wildlife tour guide. Hamza lives in a rural part of the west coast of Scotland, with wildlife and nature right on his doorstep as a constant inspiration for his work. In his spare time, Hamza competes in the Highland Games.
In 2023, Hamza’s first book, Be a Birder: The joy of birdwatching and how to get started, was published by Gaia, Octopus Books. In the book, Hamza shares his stories of birdwatching over the years and teaches beginner birders his personal tips and tricks to get started in this fascinating hobby that is so close to his heart. The book was nominated for a Wainwright Prize in 2024.
Hamza's second book, Hamza's Wild World, was published by MacMillan Children's Books in 2024. It's packed with fun and fascinating animal facts and uses a dyslexic-friendly layout, made in consultation with Dyslexia Scotland. It was shortlisted for a Wainwright Prize and for Book of the Year in Children’s Non-fiction at the British Book Awards 2025. The book was also shortlisted for the ALCS Educational Writers’ Award and received a huge amount of praise from the judges.
In 2025, Hamza's book Homeward Bound: The Joy of Nature and My Life Outdoors was published by Gaia, Octopus Books. This book covers Hamza's inspiring journey, sharing his adventures and inspiring readers to connect with the great outdoors.
In 2026, Hamza went on tour with his incredible live show titled My Life Behind the Lens. The show takes the audience on an adventure through his travels, life as a cameraman and all the challenges and fun that brings.
Hamza has hosted events such as the Animal Action Awards and delivered keynote talks, panels events and Q+As for events at Hampton Court, Edinburgh Science Festival, Cheltenham, Haye, Moffatt Eagle Festival and more. He is the Ambassador for the Camping and Caravan Club.
